hi, i bought a baby bearded dragon on saturday and
i dont know much about them, id like some info on them,
so if someone could please help me that would be great.
1: when i try to pick him up out of his vivarium, he runs towards
the corner of the box fast and tries to climb the wall, when i finally get hold of him, his doesnt try and climb off me but he does seem scared, he stays really still, is there a reason for this.
2: in day time, the viv temperature is 36c, and in the night its about 22c, im not sure what temp
that is in fahrenheit but is that ok or should i alter it.
3: as i said, i bought him saturday afternoon, the first day he ate his food ok, 4 crickets…
quite large ones too, but its now monday afternoon and he hasnt ate anything since about
9o’clock on saturday night, should i be worried?
4: last question….how do i go about bathing him, step by step instructions would help alot.
sorry about all the questions guys, this is my first reptile, but ive already become so
attached to him, so im really worried.
1. That’s pretty typical for young beardies! Don’t worry, he will calm down in time. And the staying still part? Well that’s just what they do!
2. Hopefully, you are proving UVA and UVB lighting. Check this out, It’s a great page! http://www.reptilechannel.com/care-sheets/bearded-dragon-lizard.aspx If it doesn’t link, just copy and paste.
3. NEVER FEED FOOD LARGER THAN THE WIDTH OF HIS HEAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. Beardies love their veggies. Don’t JUST feed crickets. A great supplment is stage one baby food through a medical dropper and you can add calcium powder to it. Look up good vegetables for a bearded dragon.
4. They don’t need to be bathed that often. I just fill up the bath tub with enough water to cover ONLY up to his head in the back of the tub. The front will be deeper but that’s ok. They are GREAT swimmers. Use warm water but NOT ANY HOTTER! They are cold blooded…..
PLEASE do a little research, you can learn alot. And when You think you found a good site, get the date it was made on the very bottem. If it’s from more than five years age FORGET ABOUT IT. Go to the library, something. You really should know more before just jumping into this. Og and if he’s wild caught, TAKE HIM TO THE VET! If he’s captive bred, your good.
