How is the word "friendly" used to describe soccer games?

I noticed that the word "friendly" is used frequently to describe soccer games, like an "international friendly" or "interleague friendly" match. What exactly does this mean?

Friendly means the result doesn’t count towards World Cup qualification or end of season position etc. Basically it is a game for the sake of having a game…for fun!

Friendly is used when the game being played is not competitive or does not count in the outcome of a league.
E.g. Teams go on world tours and play matches with teams from other leagues which do not mean anything.

a "friendly" game means it’s just a game for fun and doesn’t contribute to any competition points
